Euro at the Square: Understanding the EUR/DZD Rate

Read a euro–dinar rate, distinguish buying from selling, and use a dated reference value in your calculations.

This page covers the euro’s value against the Algerian dinar in the context of the market known as the “Square” in Algiers. The EUR/DZD pair indicates how many dinars correspond to one euro. To read a rate correctly, keep the currency, the direction of the transaction, and the date of the displayed value together.

How to read the rates

The buying price and selling price are two separate values. The spread is the difference, in dinars, between the selling rate and the buying rate. A single value therefore cannot describe every possible transaction.

Converting euros to dinars

The basic calculation is straightforward: amount in euros × EUR/DZD rate = amount in dinars. To calculate the equivalent of 100, 500, or 1,000 euros, select EUR and enter the amount in the converter.

Understanding the Square context

Observations from the informal market should be distinguished from the rates offered by official institutions. Currency supply and demand, travel and import needs, and the economic context are factors discussed when explaining these differences.

The calculation gives an indicative result. To find out the amount that would actually apply to a transaction, check the rate, any fees, and the terms with your institution.
